Serial robber likes 7-Eleven

The thief committed his first robbery two years ago. He has been an elusive fellow ever since.

A serial armed robber who specializes in targeting Northeast 7-Eleven stores is still on the loose almost eight months after his latest heist and two years after his first known crime.

Hoping for new leads, Philadelphia police last week re-released surveillance video of the unknown bandit.

The same man, who has been described as white, in his 20s and about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, is responsible for 11 robberies in the Northeast, along with four more in Bensalem Township from October 2009 through December 2010, police said.

And in a strange twist, the typically masked and hooded robber showed up in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops at one store in July 2010 and attempted to repay money he previously had stolen from the business, detectives claim.

The locations of the robberies include the following 7-Eleven stores: 5231 Harbison Ave. on three occasions; 2634 Bridge St. twice; 6927 Torresdale Ave. three times; and 7901 Frankford Ave. three times.

Typically, the robber entered a store, pointed a black handgun at the clerk and demanded cash. Police have not specified how much money he has stolen.

He often has worn a black hooded sweatshirt with sweat pants or blue jeans, along with a black mask to cover his mouth and nose. Most of the crimes have occurred late at night or in early morning.

No injuries have been reported. Call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153 to report information about the case. ••
