Positive signals
Catherine Rossi, AAA Mid-Atlantics manager of public and government affairs, remembers traveling to England several years ago and seeing pedestrian crosswalk timers.
The timers alert pedestrians how long they have until the light turns red.
"I thought, Why dont we have more of these in the United States, " she said.

Wright the wrong
When Michael Nutter quit his job as a city councilman two years ago to seek the Democratic nomination for mayor in 2007, few people thought he had much of a chance, especially with powerhouse congressmen like Bob Brady and Chaka Fattah in the race. Mr. Nutter, as most people know, prevailed in the primary and creamed Republican Al Taubenberger in the general election last November.
