Cops make heroin
bust in Frankford
Patrol officers responding to a report of a burglary in progress in Frankford last week stumbled upon a multimillion-dollar heroin shipment and arrested three men allegedly linked to the drugs.
On July 23 at about 10:30 p.m., someone called 911 to report seeing men trying to break into a residence on the 1300 block of Kennedy St., police said.
When officers from the 15th district arrived at the scene, they saw three men leaving the rear of the property carrying a large box.
Strike Force North officers also responded to the scene.
Spotting the lawmen, the suspects placed the box in the front seat of a parked vehicle and ran.
Officers chased down two of the suspects on foot.
One allegedly had a 9 mm pistol loaded with 15 rounds, while the other had a gas-powered BB gun.
Police subsequently searched the box and found more than 7,800 grams of heroin, valued at more than $2.6 million, along with 223 grams of crack cocaine, valued at $22,300.
Another 6.5 grams of heroin was allegedly found on the suspects, who were identified as Luis Alvarado, 26, of the 1200 block of Greeby St., and Edwin Melendez, 23, address unknown.
Inside the house on Kennedy Street, investigators allegedly discovered drug packaging materials.
Police arrested the third male, Pablo Marajo, 23, who they identified as a resident of the home.
All three are charged with drug trafficking and related drug offenses.
Alvarado and Melendez are also charged with robbery and weapons violations.
No burglary charges have been filed.
