Gunman who robbed
Boston Market is on the loose
A lone man with a shotgun robbed a Boston Market restaurant in Tacony on Sunday night, leaving five employees stranded in a walk-in freezer.
Members of the Philadelphia police SWAT Unit freed the workers after about 20 minutes in the cold, said Capt. Jack McGinnis of Northeast Detectives. There were no injuries reported.
The heist began at about 9:05 p.m. when the unmasked gunman entered the business through a side door and announced a holdup.
He forced the staff members into a rear area at gunpoint and made the manager open a safe. The suspect then locked the five employees in the freezer and fled.
A worker with a cell phone called 911. Arriving police did not enter the shop immediately as the employees were unsure that the robber had left, McGinnis said.
Investigators later determined that the suspect had entered the restaurant about 45 minutes prior to the robbery to "case" the place and use the restroom. He then left and apparently waited for all customers to leave.
Surveillance cameras in the business filmed the suspect. He is black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 180 to 190 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt, faded blue jeans and a white cap. He had a full beard.
