Northeast man killed
in crash on Boulevard

Police blame excessive speed for a one-car crash Sunday at Roosevelt Boulevard and Grant Avenue that claimed the life of a Northeast man.
Though the accident occurred during a typically busy time of day at the intersection, 10:45 a.m., no one other than the victim was injured, according to Sgt. Albert Gramlich of the police department’s accident investigation division.
"It’s amazing he didn’t hit anybody else," Gramlich said.
Investigators believe that Keril Vasserman, 24, of the 7800 block of Algon Ave., was driving westbound on Grant Avenue and attempting to turn left onto Roosevelt Boulevard when he lost control of his late-model car.
The vehicle struck at least one tree on the grass median between the inner and outer southbound lanes and perhaps additional trees, Gramlich said. Vasserman was ejected from the car and later pronounced dead at the scene.
At least one news media outlet reported that the car rolled and landed on top of the victim. The vehicle came to rest on its roof and was damaged beyond recognition.
Investigators plan to review film from red light cameras placed at the intersection to determine if Vasserman ran a traffic signal. The results of a post-mortem toxicological examination of the victim are pending, Gramlich said. ••
