Fund established to assist soldier
injured in Afghanistan

Coil-Plus, a local steel company, has established a fund to benefit Kevin McCloskey, a Tacony soldier who was seriously injured earlier this month while serving in Afghanistan.
McCloskey, a Princeton Avenue resident who tuned 21 on Sunday, is recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He was injured on June 8 by an improvised explosive device (IED) that was detonated near the vehicle he was operating.
The injuries required doctors to amputate his legs below the knees. He also has a broken pelvis, arm, wrist and collarbone and burns on his thigh, face and chest. He also had shrapnel in his right eye, but a surgery last week will likely preserve most of his vision.
McCloskey’s family — parents Tom and Joann, older sister Michelle and older brother Mike — have visited him in the hospital.
Tom McCloskey works for Coil-Plus, which set up the fund. Donations can be made to the Support Specialist Kevin McCloskey Fund, 5135 Bleigh Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19136. Or, donations can be dropped off at any Wachovia Bank branch.
A 2005 graduate of North Catholic High School, Kevin McCloskey enlisted in the Army in June 2006.
Assigned to Fort Campbell, an Army installation in Kentucky, he arrived in Afghanistan in March. ••
