Lawncrest is ready
to mark the 4th

Final preparations are being made for the 93rd annual Lawncrest 4th of July Celebration.
Organizers outlined the plans at last week’s meeting of the Lawncrest Community Association.
The celebration will be on Friday, July 4, with a rain date the following day. The theme is 2 Neighborhoods = 1 Community (Crescentville + Lawndale = Lawncrest).
The parade starts at 8 a.m. at Rising Sun Avenue and Martins Mill Road, with the finish at Lawncrest Recreation Center, at Rising Sun and Comly Street. A flag ceremony will follow.
Marching units will include veterans, community groups, churches, sports mascots and St. William Scout troops. Children ages 7 to 14 are invited to decorate their bicycles, with new bikes given to the four winners. The prizes are sponsored by Lawncrest Town Watch.
Most of the day’s activities will take place on the grounds of the recreation center.
There will be a Moonbounce, face painting, a slide, duck pond, ring toss and sand art for kids. A flea market consisting of more than 40 vendors will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. A Latin Cruisers Car Show is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A disc jockey will play music from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a food court will be open all day. Raffle tickets and T-shirts will be for sale and there will be a Chinese auction.
A baby parade will be held at 1 p.m. at Rising Sun and Robbins avenues. To register, e-mail merichris88@msn.com
At dusk, there will be a fireworks show.
At last week’s civic association meeting, the 35th Ward Democratic Executive Committee donated $1,000 to the organizing committee. The ward leader, Bill Dolbow, is also president of the LCA.
