West Philly teen charged
in string of Northeast robberies

A federal grand jury last week indicted a West Philadelphia teen in connection with a string of armed robberies of Northeast-based food delivery men and cab drivers late last year.
U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan announced the filing of the 11-count indictment on Thursday.
In it, the grand jury alleges that 19-year-old Anthony Giggs lured his victims to various locations in the Lower Northeast, Olney and Feltonville areas by placing orders by phone.
Upon the delivery drivers’ arrivals, Giggs and accomplices robbed the drivers of cash, food and cell phones.
In one case, Giggs stole a driver’s 2005 Honda automobile, according to the indictment.
The crimes occurred between early October 2007 and continued until Giggs’ November arrest.
Giggs allegedly robbed employees of China Panda, 6421 Rising Sun Ave.; Yellow Cab, 4425 Rising Sun Ave.; New China Restaurant, 5815 Rising Sun Ave.; Pronto Uno Pizzeria, 5809 Rising Sun Ave.; Millennium Limo & Sedan Service, 4679 Darrah St.; New York Pizzeria, 5808 Rising Sun Ave.; High Class Limousine, 412 E. Wyoming Ave.; Pizza Bona, 5734 N. Second St.; Prince Pizza, 6352 Algon Ave.; Yee Garden, 5361 Oxford Ave.; Ozzy’s Pizza Shop, 5640 N. Fifth St.; Larry’s Steaks & Hoagies, 6400 Rising Sun Ave.; Premium Pizza Restaurant, 721 Adams St.; and Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant, 6611 Rising Sun Ave.
He initially was charged locally and was scheduled for a July preliminary hearing prior to the indictment.
Giggs now faces one count of conspiracy, six counts of Hobbs Act robbery, three counts of using a firearm in a crime of violence and one count of armed carjacking.
A trial date has not been set. ••
