Model homes open
at the Byberry site
Mayor Michael Nutter, state Sen. Mike Stack and Somerton Civic Association president Mary Jane Hazell joined Westrum Development Company president John Westrum on Saturday for the grand opening of the new Arbours at Eagle Pointe 55-and-over community on the site of the former Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry.
According to Leslie Balzer, vice president of marketing for Westrum, the company debuted four new model homes and a permanent sales center. The completed models include samples of the companys carriage homes, which are townhome-style residences, as well as its villas or quad homes.
Westrum has sold 40 of the 63 homes planned for its first phase of construction, Balzer said, and has outstanding deposits on another eight homes.
Plans call for the developer to build nearly 400 homes in the next four to five years. Late this summer, Westrum expects to open its sale of single homes within the development, Balzer said.
The entrance to Eagle Pointe is on Southampton Road, just west of Roosevelt Boulevard. The on-site sales office is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 to 5 on Sunday. Walk-in tours are available.
