Off-duty cop shoots
alleged prowler

An off-duty Philadelphia police officer shot an alleged prowler outside an Oxford Circle home on Sunday night.
Bryan Finney, 30, of the 1500 block of Lardner St., was listed in critical but stable condition on Tuesday at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
The shooting occurred at about 8 p.m. on Sunday, after Finney went into a neighbor’s yard, pulled shrubs out of the ground and acted aggressively toward the neighbor, police said. The property owner notified the off-duty cop, who called 911 and then confronted Finney.
When the off-duty cop approached Finney, the suspect allegedly charged the officer, who shot Finney multiple times, according to a police spokesman. The incident remains under investigation by Northeast Detectives and the Internal Affairs Bureau.
Finney is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and other offenses. ••
