Police arrest
drug suspect
Philadelphia police narcotics officers arrested an East Torresdale man last week after they allegedly found thousands of dollars worth of cocaine and prescription pills in his apartment.
A confidential informant tipped investigators to the alleged drug packaging and distribution activity by Kenneth Cimato, 26, of the 9500 block of James St., said Capt. Debra Frazier, commander of the Narcotics Field Unit.
Police conducted surveillance on the suspect throughout May and developed probable cause to obtain a search warrant for his residence.
During the raid, officers allegedly recovered 355 grams of cocaine, 284 OxyContin and Valium pills, $70,055 cash, a money-counting machine, scale, packaging materials and five handguns.
The weapons were registered to Cimato, Frazier said.
Investigators believe that Cimato generally conducted his business inside and not on the street. Because of the presence of packaging materials, he probably was breaking down cocaine on-site, according to Frazier.
Cimato is charged with drug possession and drug possession with intent to distribute. Police have not named any other suspects in the case, but their investigation continues.
