Philadelphia homicide investigators last week arrested three more people linked to the May 3 shooting death of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, including the one alleged gunman who eluded capture for more than four days.
Police captured 33-year-old Eric DeShawn Floyd at about 11 p.m. on May 7 in a boarded rowhouse on the 5400 block of Windsor St. in the city’s Southwest section. Floyd, whose middle name has also been spelled "DeShann" by authorities, was hiding out in the dilapidated residence with a girlfriend, Tonya Lynne Stephens, who brought him food and other supplies, including crack cocaine, authorities allege.
Floyd, of the 600 block of W. Clearfield St., was charged with murder, robbery and other offenses related to the Liczbinski shooting, as well as the Port Richmond bank heist that precipitated it.
Stephens, 37, of the 2100 block of Franklin St., was also arrested at the Windsor Street house and charged with obstructing justice, hindering apprehension and conspiracy.
On May 4, police arrested Mitchell Cain, 49, of the 200 block of N. 61st St., and charged him with numerous offenses related to a May 2 carjacking in West Philadelphia. Cain allegedly stole the blue 2002 Jeep Liberty that the bank robbers used as their getaway vehicle.
His nephew, 33-year-old Howard Cain, was one of the suspected bank robbers and the gunman in the Liczbinski shooting, police claim. Officers responding to the police-radio call of an officer down cornered and shot the younger Cain to death on the 500 block of E. Louden St. when the suspect allegedly pointed an assault rifle at them. Police said it was the weapon used to kill Liczbinski.
On Sunday, authorities announced charges against a friend of Floyd who allegedly drove the fugitive from North Philly to the Southwest Philly hideout hours after the Liczbinski shooting.
Police found Isaac Albright, 33, in Graterford Prison, where he recently had been incarcerated on a parole violation connected to a prior auto-theft conviction.
Floyd’s other alleged accomplice in the bank robbery and Liczbinski slaying, Levon Warner, 39, of the 5400 block of Westminster St., was arrested minutes after the shooting. He and Floyd are being held without bail. A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for May 15. ••
