A Bucks County man was wounded nine times by gunfire during an altercation that spilled out of a Holmesburg bar on Sunday morning, but he survived as witnesses helped police capture the gunman.
Philadelphia police say that a fistfight inside the Last Call Tavern, at 7400 Frankford Ave., precipitated the 1:33 a.m. shooting.
After the argument, Edward Schwarz, 24, of Levittown, walked around the corner to the 3600 block of Decatur St. where he was confronted again by Derrick Whitfield, 23, of the 4500 block of Aberdale Road, police said.
Whitfield allegedly pulled a gun on Schwarz, threatened him, then opened fire.
Schwarz suffered wounds of both legs, his right arm and both hands, police said. Medics took him in critical condition to Frankford Hospital-Torresdale.
Police identified the alleged shooter with help of witnesses and the victim and captured Whitfield that morning at his home.
He was later charged formally with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations and related offenses.
