The Philadelphia Police and Fire Blue Flame tackle football team will open its 2008 season on Saturday by memorializing two fallen police officers.
Officers Gary Skerski and Chuck Cassidy will be honored in a pre-game ceremony along with all of the men and women who serve to protect the community before the Blue Flame take on the Orlando Guardians at Northeast High School, Cottman and Algon avenues.
Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $5 at the gate.
The game will mark the start of the Blue Flame’s sixth season in the National Public Safety Football League, which consists of 21 teams representing police departments, fire departments and other public safety agencies across the country.
The Blue Flame is also a charitable organization and has raised more than $90,000 to benefit the Police Athletic League, the Hero Scholarship Fund, the March of Dimes, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Survivors’ Fund and the Living Flame Memorial. ••
