Eva Burrell, a community outreach specialist for the city Department of Streets, is urging members of the Lawncrest Community Association to recycle.
Materials that the city accepts for recycling include newspapers, magazines, cardboard, mail, food boxes, computer paper, fliers, plastic containers, glass bottles and jars and aluminum, metal and aerosol cans.
All of those items can be placed in a plastic bin, though it might be easier to bundle paper with a string or place it in a paper bag.
Among the items that the city does not accept are Styrofoam and food-soiled paper.
Recyclables should be placed with regular trash between 7 p.m. the night before collection and 7:30 a.m. on the day of collection.
Residents can use the citys blue recycling bins or any container, up to 20 gallons, as long as it is labeled with the word "recycling."
For those who do not want to wait for the biweekly curbside collections, the Friends of Pennypack Park accepts paper, plastic containers and books on the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon in the Abraham Lincoln High School parking lot at Rowland Avenue and Vista Street.
For more information, call 215-685-RECYCLE or visit recyclingpays.phila.gov
