Aetna, Bravo Foundation
donate to area schools

Aetna and the Bravo Foundation teamed up last week to donate $20,000 in scholarship money to six local schools and two area child-care services.
The announcement was made at St. Hubert High School.
"We are so deeply grateful," said Sister Alma Rose Schlosser, the school’s president.
The scholarship money will go to students at St. Hubert, Nazareth Academy High School, St. Bernard, St. Katherine of Siena, St. Martha, Maternity BVM, Shaare Shamayim Juda Day Care and CORA Day Care Services.
The Harrisburg-based Bravo Foundation is a nonprofit scholarship program established under the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, created in 2001 after lawmakers failed to pass a school vouchers bill.
Businesses, such as Aetna, receive a 75-percent tax credit — 90 percent for a two-year commitment — for the money they donate to scholarship organizations such as Bravo.
"It is our pleasure to help students and families better afford the education of their choosing," said Dr. Don Liss, a Bustleton native and Mid-Atlantic Region medical director for Aetna, a leading health-care benefits company.
State Sen. Mike Stack (D-5th dist.) and state Rep. Mike McGeehan (D-173rd dist.) also attended the announcement.
More than 33,000 children across Pennsylvania benefit from EITC scholarships.
Since its inception in 2003, Bravo has committed almost $6 million in scholarship money. ••
