Suspect sought in
several local robberies
A Bucks County man who allegedly robbed two Northeast Philadelphia supermarkets this month by threatening cashiers with a concealed weapon may also be responsible for two similar crimes last November, local police say.
Ryan Barrie, 23, of the 500 block of Penn St. in Newtown, remained at large Tuesday afternoon.
He is wanted in Philadelphia for allegedly robbing a Shop Rite at 6725 Frankford Ave. on March 14, and a Pathmark at 8716 Frankford Ave. on March 15.
The latest heist occurred at 6:51 p.m. when Barrie allegedly approached a cashier, simulated that he had a weapon up his sleeve and demanded money, police said. He fled with $1,235.
He allegedly used the same method one day earlier at 2:30 p.m., when he got away with $564.
Police are investigating the possible role of Barrie in the robberies of two Wawa stores last Nov. 11. The first occurred at 8000 Roosevelt Blvd. at 3:20 a.m. and the second at 10550 Knights Road at 6:10 a.m. The suspect stole a combined $319 in the holdups.
Surveillance cameras in the targeted stores captured the suspects image and helped investigators identify Barrie.
According to witness accounts, the suspect was seen in a light teal Mercury Grand Marquis sedan being driven by a black woman. Police have not identified the driver.
