St. Martin students
earn scholarships
St. Martin of Tours School eighth-graders Thomas Fisher and Francisco Goncalves last week won full four-year high school scholarships as part of the Connelly Foundations Neumann Scholars Program.
Fisher, of Sanger Street, and Goncalves, of Hellerman Street, will both attend Father Judge.
Connelly Foundation president Josephine Mandeville and Jeannie ONeill, one of the foundations funding partners, surprised the students with the news during a March 5 assembly.
In all, the foundation awarded scholarships to 50 students throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
To be eligible, students must have a 92 average through seventh grade. Then, they must score high on a standardized test.
In January, 758 students took a final examination, with the 50 highest scorers earning scholarships. To keep the scholarship, students must maintain a 90 average and have good conduct grades.
Fisher and Goncalves will be honored at an awards ceremony on April 27 at St. Josephs University.
