Ryan student claims
inappropriate conduct by teacher
The Philadelphia Police Departments special victims unit confirmed that it is investigating a report of inappropriate contact by a teacher at Archbishop Ryan High School as reported by a 16-year-old girl. The report falls under the general category of harassment, according to Capt. John Darby, commander of the SVU.
Charges have not been filed and neither the police nor the Archdiocese of Philadelphia would release the name of the teacher as the Times went to press.
The teacher was suspended with pay last week after the archdiocese received a report of inappropriate conduct with a student, late in the day on March 4. According to archdiocese spokeswoman Donna Farrell, a report was made to the police and to the District Attorneys office the following morning.
This allegation following last weeks arrest of former St. Huberts staffer Scott Healey, who is being charged with corrupting the morals of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child for his alleged physical relationship with a student.
These cases bring a heightened awareness, which could in turn bring other allegations, Darby said.
