Police officers Scott Brous and Rosario Capaccio were recognized as the 15th Police District officers of the month for January, during the districts advisory council meeting last week at the John Perzel Community Center.
According to Capt. Frank Bachmayer, district commander, the two were chosen for making four arrests in January during a three-week period from Jan. 4 to 25. They include a graffiti arrest on the 6300 block of Frankford Ave., an attempted burglary on the 4700 block of Disston St., a theft-from-auto arrest on the 6400 block of Sackett St., and a robbery arrest on the 4900 block of Benner St.
Bachmayer reported that violent crime in the district is down 10 percent and quality-of-life arrests are up 22 percent.
"Driving our numbers are property crimes. Were up sixty percent on theft from autos," the captain said.
That increase is due to post-holiday break-ins and thefts of on-the-dash GPS units.
Bachmayer drew applause and kudos when PDAC vice president Nancy Doerr announced that the captain had been awarded the Fraternal Order of Police Commanders Award.
Bachmayer also reluctantly accepted and donned a big blue foam hat with Captain of the Year pinned to it.
A member of Bridesburg Town Watch thanked Officer Sharon Krause, the 15th districts community relations officer, for her assistance with the Bridesburg Schools Safe Corridor Program. The program provides students with supervision and protection from volunteers on their way to and from school.
In other business, the PDAC will host its community day on Saturday, May 10.
The organization will also offer cash prizes in a contest for children to design a new 15th PDAC logo. Details are pending.
The PDAC is also considering creating a Web site that could link to other community organizations and post crime bulletins and advisories.
The next 15th PDAC meeting will be held on Monday, March 31, at 7 p.m., at the John Perzel Community Center, 2990 St. Vincent St.
It will be followed by a captains forum at 8 p.m. for the general public/residents of the 15th police district. The PDAC meeting is only for representatives of 15th district community organizations.
