Drawing some art
into the community
About 300 people, including state Rep. Mike McGeehan and City Councilwoman Joan Krajewski, attended Saturdays exhibition by students at the Diskin-Gallagher Community Arts Center.
The event took place at Republic First Bank, at Frankford and Cottman avenues. The gallery included 30 works by 86-year-old student Larry Cummings, along with selected pieces by the other students.
The office of U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz presented Cummings with a certificate for his art excellence.
Visitors purchased the artwork, with proceeds to be used to expand the center, located at 7143 Edmund St. in Tacony.
The Major Artery Revitalization Committee helps fund the center and provided refreshments on Saturday.
