Murphy just can’t stand
those dastardly Giants

U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy was the lone "no" vote last week on a resolution honoring the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants.
Rep. Steven Rothman, a Democrat who represents the district where the Giants play in East Rutherford, N.J., offered a resolution "congratulating the National Football League champion New York Giants for winning Super Bowl XLII and completing one of the most remarkable post-season runs in professional sports history."
The measure passed by a vote of 412-1. Two Democrats voted present. They were Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, of New Hampshire, and Rep. Steve Kagen, of Wisconsin. The Giants upset the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game.
Murphy (D-8th dist.), who worked Eagles games as a security guard in the 700 level of Veterans Stadium, was less shy about voicing his displeasure.
"While I was happy to see the Patriots lose, as a lifelong Eagles fan, I can never in good conscience say anything nice about the New York Giants," he said.
Reps. Bob Brady (D-1st dist.), Chaka Fattah (D-2nd dist.) and Allyson Schwartz (D-13th dist.) voted in favor of the measure. ••
