The Philadelphia Police and Fire Blue Flame football team will hold its third annual Police vs. Fire Boxing Fund-raiser on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory, Roosevelt Boulevard and Southampton Road.
The event is one of several fund-raisers organized by the football team during its off-season to benefit several adopted charities, including the Police Athletic League, the Hero Scholarship Fund, the Survivors Fund, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Pegasus Riding Academy. The team raised $22,000 for these charities last year to increase its overall total to $93,000.
The boxing card will feature fighters from the police and fire departments in a series of amateur bouts spanning various weight classes, ages and skill levels. Boxers have been in training at Costello gym in Tacony and Harrowgate gym, among other facilities.
Team scoring will be kept. The series is tied 1-1.
Tickets cost $20 and are available in advance or at the door. Call 267-278-0589 for information.
