February sees full
schedule of meetings
A number of local civic associations are scheduled to meet in the month of February.
The Northwood Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, at Castor Avenue and Pratt Street. The guest will be state Rep. John Taylor (R-177th dist.).
The Lawncrest Community Association will also meet on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets.
Sadly, LCA vice president Ed Simon died last week of pancreatic cancer. He was 75. Donations in his memory can be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or University of Pennsylvania, Office of Medical Center Development, Attn.: Abramson Cancer Center Melanoma Research, 3535 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
The Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association usually meets on the second Thursday of the month, but the group did not want to compete with Valentines Day, so the meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church of the Redeemer, at Cottman and Lawndale avenues.
The Greater Bustleton Civic League will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at American Heritage Federal Credit Union, at 2060 Red Lion Road. In the meantime, residents can call the groups hot line at 215-676-6890 to report neighborhood information.
The 8th Police District Advisory Council will meet on Wed., Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the 8th Police District headquarters, Academy and Red Lion roads.
The East Torresdale Civic Association will meet on Monday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at Liberty Evangelical Free Church, Linden Avenue and Milnor Street.
The Somerton Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Walker Lodge 306, 1290 Southampton Road.
The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association will meet on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at St. Dominics Marian Hall, Frankford Avenue and Kendrick Street.
