GPS systems

Capt. Frank Bachmayer, commander of the 15th Police District, wants to alert residents to remove portable Global Positioning Satellite systems from their dashboards before leaving their vehicles.
The GPS units (satellite-based navigation devices) were popular holiday gifts this year. Since Christmas about 40 have been stolen throughout the district.
Police encourage residents to be aware of where they park and to lock their doors and remove all valuables, including the GPS units and satellite radios, from plain view. ••
