Two teens die in high-speed
crash on the Boulevard
Excessive speed caused a one-car crash that claimed the lives of two teenagers on Roosevelt Boulevard during the New Years holiday weekend, according to police.
Joseph Spires, 19, of the unit block of Magnolia Place in Bustleton, and David Kapral, 18, of the 3100 block of State Road in Bensalem, both died on Dec. 30 as a result of the wreck.
Spires, the driver, lost control of his Honda sports car at about 3:30 a.m. while traveling in the northbound outer lanes near Pratt Street, police accident investigators claim. The vehicle "bottomed out" twice in the intersection, spun, skidded across two lanes and struck two trees along the east curb of the state highway.
The car came to rest just south of Bridge Street.
Spires was pronounced dead at the scene. Kapral died about an hour later at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Police dont believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Spires reportedly was the son of a longtime Philadelphia police officer assigned to the 15th district, where the wreck occurred.
