Thank you for delivering
holiday miracles to those in need
Thanks to the compassion of Northeast Times readers, our annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund distributed more than 50 holiday turkey dinners to individuals and families in need in the Northeast.
Established 52 years ago by the late co-owner of the Times, the holiday fund which exists through the generosity of loyal supporters in the Northeast raised just more than $2,500 in contributions to provide recipients with nourishing dinners.
For the last month, our Eleanor Smylie Community Fund had been accepting your financial donations to provide the meals to recipients. We found out about these people through their own letters, which, because of such reasons as illness or unemployment or loss of a loved one, detailed their prospects for a bleak holiday. And others who knew of such people wrote to us.
Thanks to your generosity, the fund has enjoyed another successful season. In addition to aiding local families, the fund also provided some meals to non-profit organizations that have done a fine job feeding people in need, particularly the elderly homebound who really need the help.
We are grateful for the kindness of residents, organizations and businesses, many of them longtime supporters. We thank this latest list of contributors:
