Wawa robbery suspect
Police have arrested the alleged knife-wielding robber who stabbed a sales clerk at a Northeast convenience store last week.
Civilian tips helped detectives identify and locate John Capobianco, 36, of the 4200 block of Vista St., on Dec. 5, two days after authorities say he wounded a female cashier at the Wawa at 7715 Frankford Ave.
According to investigators, Capobianco entered the store at 4:10 a.m. and approached the sales counter to purchase a piece of candy. When the clerk opened the cash register, the assailant reached into the cash drawer.
The clerk attempted to close the drawer, police said, but Capobianco produced a knife and stabbed her in the left arm.
The robber managed to grab $190 and flee the store.
The clerks wound required stitches, but she is recovering from the injury and in good condition, police said.
One day after the crime, detectives released a store surveillance photo of the suspect to the news media in hope someone would identify him.
After linking Capobianco to the crime with the help of civilian tips, officers arrested him at his home. The suspect did not resist, police said.
