Uh-Oh . . . Kelly still has
edge in ballot-counting

City Councilman Jack Kelly held a narrow lead, as the Times went to press, over fellow Republican David Oh for the final at-large seat.
Oh edged Kelly on the final unofficial machine count by a margin of seven votes, 60,366 to 60,359.
However, Kelly outpolled Oh in absentee, military and alternative ballots for the elderly and handicapped by a count of 771-624.
That gave Kelly an initial lead of 140 votes with more than 1,400 provisional ballots to be counted. On Tuesday, Kelly’s lead held at 123 votes.
Provisional ballots are given to individuals who say they are registered to vote but whose names do not appear on the rolls.
The close race is a surprise, considering Kelly beat Oh by about 14,000 votes in 2003.
Both sides have hired lawyers for possible challenges to the election results. ••
