Normandy residents rattled off a host of neighborhood gripes at the groups meeting last Thursday.
The community listed several complaints pertaining to vehicles. Trucks continue to park illegally along Comly Road, where "No Truck Parking" signs are posted on only one side of the road.
Trucks and cars also continue to drive through the neighborhoods in search of Woodhaven Road and Frankford Hospital-Torresdale. Residents want signs directing traffic to those destinations to be placed on certain streets.
Some residents also complained about people parking their cars on their lawns.
Pennsylvania House Speaker Dennis OBrien (R-169th dist.) said hed contact the 8th Police District about responding to some of the issues.
In other quality-of-life news, the group reported that CLIP (Community Life Improvement Program) has cleaned up at least five blighted houses in the community. Civic association president John Wisniewski encourage residents with concerns to contact him or the CLIP hot line at 215-683-CLIP.
In other news from the Nov. 8 meeting:
The group held a moment of silence for Officer Chuck Cassidy, who was killed Oct. 31 when he interrupted a robbery at a Dunkin Donuts in West Oak Lane, and for Michael Hufnagel, the son of the groups former secretary, Phil Hufnagel.
The younger Hufnagel was killed after being struck by a car while he was crossing Roosevelt Boulevard at Plaza Drive near Haldeman Avenue at 1:40 a.m. on Nov. 4. Police said that the driver had a green light and stopped at the scene after the accident and has not been charged.
The group reported that it made just over $1,000 from its Oct. 26 Fall Ball fund-raiser. More than $2,000 in proceeds from the events basket raffle went to a grade school girl in the area who has cancer.
The group plans to host its second "Santa Comes to Normandy" event on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 16. Last year, Santa traveled through the neighborhood playing Christmas music and handing out small gifts.
The contractor responsible for creating an island on Nestor Road reportedly promised members at last months meeting that he would fix several problems in the spot. Several plants there reportedly have died from lack of maintenance. The group spent $3,000 on the project.
The group will recess until the new year.
