Thunderbird Lanes hosts
benefit for Cassidy family

Thunderbird Lanes, at 3081 Holme Ave., will host a bowling benefit on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. to raise money for the family of slain police officer Charles "Chuck" Cassidy.
The afternoon’s emcee will be Paul Jolovitz, of WIP (610 AM). Also appearing will be Leslie Gudel, of Comcast SportsNet, and Sean Young, who dresses as the Eagles’ Super Fan. Entertainment will be provided by two rock bands, a string band, magicians and face-painters.
Jolovitz will conduct a live auction of sports memorabilia and other items. There will also be raffles, door prizes and a 50-50 cash drawing. Anyone making a $5 donation will be given a free game of bowling.
The Thunderbird Lanes staff has donated its services for the event. Event organizers are also asking for donations of food and door prizes.
"I hope it’s a huge fund-raiser for this family," said Elaine Brumberg, who owns the bowling alley and two others in the suburbs with her husband Norman. "I hope we’re bursting at the seams on Holme Avenue."
Already, the Thunderbird Lanes on Holme Avenue and in Warminster and Willow Grove have raised money from open and league bowling.
"The community has come together as one," Elaine Brumberg said.
Cassidy, who was shot on Oct. 31 as he interrupted an armed robbery at a West Oak Lane Dunkin’ Donuts, lived in Holme Circle, not far from Thunderbird Lanes. He left behind a wife and three children.
"It upset me as a mother with kids," Brumberg said.
