Baby Loves Disco, a national family dance party phenomenon, comes to Philadelphia at the Shampoo nightclub, located at 417 N. Eighth St., on the first Sundays in November and December — Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.
The nightclub will be transformed into a childproof disco as toddlers, pre-schoolers and parents looking for a break from the routine playground circuit let loose for some post nap-time, pre-dinner fun.
Baby Loves Disco is an afternoon dance party featuring real music spun and mixed by real DJs blending classic disco tunes from the 1970s and ’80s. The fun spills out from all corners of the club: bubble machines, baskets of instruments, a chill-out room (with tents, books and puzzles), diaper changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks, product giveaways, dancing and more!
From its origination in Philadelphia, Baby Loves Disco has grown to 18 cities and will launch in the U.K. this fall. Baby Loves Disco was voted "Best of Philly" in 2006. Host parents and co-directors are Heather Murphy Monteith and Andy Blackman Hurwitz.

When a little penguin is born in Antarctica, there’s so much to learn in Antarctic Antics…And More Hilarious Animal Stories, the newest Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD available on Nov. 20.
The title tale, Antarctic Antics, vibrantly animated from the award-winning book by Judy Sierra (illustrated by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey), celebrates, in verse and song, the slips, slides, swims and glides of a delightful penguin clan, according to information from Scholastic.
Kids are certain to sing along with the catchy tunes, following a penguin chick as she grows up and learns about life in a harsh and beautiful environment. This highly acclaimed production is winner of a prestigious Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence, as well as a Notable Video Award from the American Library Association.
Iceberg capers, however, aren’t all that’s included on this sure-to-please menagerie of tales. Other notable read-along stories include:
• Adapted from Denise Fleming’s book, In the Small Small Pond, is an award-winning film about spring’s arrival.
Bear Snores On is based on Karma Wilson’s book, illustrated by Jane Chapman. It tells of a hibernating bear who sleeps through the arrival of surprise guests in his cave, who brew tea, pop corn and generally make noisy mayhem until Bear finally wakes up.
• Narrated by John Lithgow, Bark George is the hysterical story of a mother trying to teach her pup to bark, adapted from Jules Feiffer’s tale. It also features three classic bonus stories: Caps for Sale, The Hat and The Little Red Lighthouse.
