Man arrested in charges
connected to ID thefts

A janitor at a local health club allegedly cleaned out more than a dozen members of the gym by stealing their identities and opening up fraudulent credit card accounts in their names.
Last week, Philadelphia police announced the arrest of an Upper Holmesburg man on numerous charges related to the case.
Police claim that Ronnie Gillis, 35, of the 4500 block of Tolbut St., worked as a cleaning contractor at the former Gold’s Gym, at 2451 Grant Ave. Over a three-year span, Gillis allegedly stole biographical information, including Social Security numbers, from 13 people at the gym, which has since closed.
Typically, Gillis obtained the information from lockers in the changing room, police said.
Gillis then opened credit accounts with stores such as Wal-Mart and JCPenney in victims’ names, police say, and depleted the accounts with purchases of electronic equipment and household items.
Police did not disclose the dollar value of the fraudulently purchased items.
The gym later operated under the name Ultimate Fitness before closing its doors. A recorded message on the Gold’s Gym telephone number refers club members to another local training facility. ••
