Improvements to Calvary gym

The Millbrook Civic Association has re-elected its current board for another year-long term.
The officers include: Kate Thomer, president; Tony Marciante, vice president; Anna Marie Feeney, second vice president; Carol Fowler, secretary; and Joseph Fox, treasurer.
The group discussed sending a representative of the community to meetings of the 8th Police District Advisory Council. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
Civic association member Mike Bremser outlined the improvements to the Calvary Athletic Association gym, which included replacement of floors and bleachers. Bremser lauded City Councilman Brian ONeill (R-10th dist.), state House Speaker Dennis OBrien (R-169th dist.) and state Sen. Michael Stack (D-5th dist.) for lending their support and financial contributions to the $80,000 effort, which is expected to be complete by next week.
"I cant thank you enough," said Bremser.

The group announced that the fourth annual Northeast Philly 5-Mile Run/2-Mile Fun Run and Walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14, beginning at 9 a.m., at Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The event benefits eight local sports clubs in his district. Participants can visit the Web site of the Northeast Philly Youth Alliance at www.nepya.org/registration_page.htm to register.
Fowler, the group secretary, pledged to get a representative to attend an upcoming meeting to speak about renovations to the Knights Road Shopping Center. According to Fowler, the entire center will be redone in six months to a year. It has not yet been decided which stores will stay in the center and which ones will be replaced.
Residents say they are tired of graffiti appearing on the construction site of the former Benjamin Rush Middle School, at 11081 Knights Road, which is being converted to a creative and performing arts high school to open in 2009. Bill Rapone, a legislative aide to ONeill, advised citizens to call his office at 215-686-3422 with reports. Residents can also contact the anti-graffiti hot line at 215-686-0000.
The group announced that the Chalfont Town Watchs next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at Calvary Athletic Association gym.
The Millbrook Civic Association will continue to meet on the last Thursday of the month. It next meets on Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Athletic Association, Chalfont Drive and Deerpath Lane.
