Liz McCollum-Nazario, chief of staff to City Councilman Dan Savage (D-7th dist.), has been elected to lead the Frankford Business and Professional Association.
Her selection came during the organizations general meeting last week. New Frankford Y executive director Terry Tobin will continue as vice president, Thriftway owner Mark Gilbert will stay on as treasurer, and Richardson Group managing director Diane Richardson will continue as secretary. The new terms span January 2008 through December 2009.
The slate of candidates was unopposed.
McCollum-Nazario, a Frankford resident, replaces Megan Forrestal, director of public relations and marketing for SPIN Inc.
While some may question the political aides place on the board, her residency and individual membership in the organization qualify her for the position, according to the association.
The Frankford Business and Professional Association formed in the fall of 2005 when the Frankford Business Association merged with the Bridge-Pratt Business and Professional Association. Forrestal helped get the organization on its feet and worked to cultivate relationships with political representatives to further Frankfords interests, something that until recently was beyond the neighborhoods reach.
"Im honored and excited to continue Megans vision. She was a great leader," said McCollum-Nazario. "Im honored to help Frankford Avenue move in a positive direction."
In other business during the meeting, East Frankford Civic Association president Peggy Hoch announced that the 15th Police District Advisory Council will hold its first Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Wissinoming Park, Frankford Avenue and Comly Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tobin announced that the next Frankford Crime and Safety Summit meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Frankford Hospitals second-floor conference room.
