Police need help nabbing
grocery store robbers
Police are appealing to the public for help in identifying two men linked to the armed robbery of a Frankford grocery store on July 21.
A store surveillance camera filmed each man, one of whom committed the gunpoint hold-up and another who police consider "a person of interest" in the case, said Lt. Mark Burgmann of Northeast Detectives.
At about 4:10 p.m. that day, a short, stocky man entered Lees Market, on the 5300 block of Akron St., and walked to the rear of the store.
Moments later, a second man entered, pointed a gun at a clerk and demanded money, Burgmann said.
The gunman fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. The first man followed the gunman out of the store.
There were no reported injuries resulting from the crime.
Investigators suspect that the first man who entered the store may also be involved in the robbery.
He is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall, very stocky, bearded and in his 20s. The gunman is black, 6 feet tall, thinly built and in his 20s. He had a goatee beard.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call 215-686-3153 or 3154.
