Celebrate the German-American
Steuben Parade

The 37th annual German-American Steuben Parade will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m.
The parade route is along Frankford Avenue. Marchers will begin at Welsh Road and continue south to Knorr Street. A food court will be set up at Cottman Avenue.
The parade honors Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben, an 18th-century German general who aided George Washington in the American Revolutionary War. Von Steuben will be portrayed by William Kelly.
The parade also recognizes the German-American community for its contributions to the United States.
The grand marshal for the parade is Robert Sandler, a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. The parade will also feature Holli Law, the 2007-08 Cornflower Queen, and her court.
Among the marchers will be government officials, military and veterans groups, bands, floats, German-American clubs, the Lulu Shriners fraternal organization and a delegation from the New York Steuben Parade.
Following the parade and until 10 p.m., the Bavarian Folks Festival Society will host its Oktoberfest at the United German-Hungarian Club, at 4666 Bristol Road, in Oakford, Bucks County. The Oktoberfest will continue on Sunday, Sept. 23, from noon to 10 p.m.
On the day of the parade, at noon, there will be an ecumenical Mass at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, at 3000 Cottman Ave. (at Battersby Street).
A night earlier, on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m., a banquet will be held at Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein, at 9130 Academy Road.
