Northeast couple’s baby
draws national attention

Northeast native Tom Drake and his wife Stacey will be featured this week on A Baby Story, a television show on the Learning Channel.
The program was scheduled to air for the first time on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. It is expected to be rebroadcast on later dates.
The show will chronicle the challenges that Tom and Stacey Drake had in conceiving a child.
Tom, who grew up on Tremont Street and graduated from Father Judge High School in 1996, has Klinefelter’s syndrome, a congenital disorder of males that can cause sterility.
Stacey has Graves’ disease, a thyroid disorder that can lead to a high risk of miscarriage.
The Drakes, who live in Levittown, were given less than a 1-percent chance of having a child of their own.
Yet, after surgery and treatments, they conceived, and Samantha Joy Drake was born on Jan. 8 of this year at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne.
A crew from A Baby Story came from New York to film the birth and a follow-up segment. ••
