HELPING HANDS
This information on air travel for the sick was sent in by a reader who wishes to stay anonymous.
However, they wanted me to pass this very important information onto other readers of Kids Stuff.
I thought if this could help even one individual, why not?
Here is a great message for cancer patients, bone marrow donors and bone marrow recipients who are ambulatory and do not need medical support while traveling. Eligibility is not based on financial need, and patients may travel as often as necessary.
You can fly to recognized treatment centers around the country, free of charge, in the empty seats on corporate jets. Theres no costly airfare, no unnecessary exposure to airport crowds.
Corporate Angel Network, a national public charity, works directly with patients and families to coordinate their travel needs with the flight plans of "corporate angels."
How to obtain free air transportation:
Call the Corporate Angel Network toll-free patient line at 1-866-328-1313 to register within three weeks of a specific appointment at a recognized cancer treatment center; or send an e-mail to the network and provide a phone number where you can be reached.
You must make backup travel arrangements with the travel agency or airline of your choice, as the network cannot guarantee it will find a flight. It will immediately call the patient if and when it finds a match.
Also if you are a corporation with a big heart, you might be able to help. Keep reading what I am printing next.
Thanks to the generous cooperation of 500 of Americas top corporations, including 56 of the top 100 in the Fortune 500, Corporate Angel Network has coordinated more than 20,000 flights since its founding in 1981.
If you are interested in helping, see the numbers listed below.
Volunteers needed:
Corporate Angel Network could not succeed without the dedicated service of its volunteers.
These volunteers enter flight schedules into a secure database; schedule flights; help arrange ground transportation; research and contact new corporations; help generate news coverage; and place pro bono print ads.
If you have a few hours or more to spare each week and would like to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients, the network wants to hear from you.
For more information, call 1-914-328-1313, send an e-mail to info@CorpAngelNetwork.org or visit www.CorpAngelNetwork.org
HOT SCHOOL TIPS
Shop early: Stores are stocked now for back to school, so check your childs school Web site for back-to-school shopping lists. Do yourself a favor beat the rush!
Stay organized: Get out a Sharpie permanent marker and put your name on your supplies. Fill your backpack with the required school supplies before the first day of school arrives.
Review: If this is not your first encounter with school, pull last years notes out, especially math. Do a brief review for two hours a day, for a week.
You might not be thrilled with this suggestion, but it could get your new school year off to a great start.
