Firefighter burned
in Holmesburg blaze
A Northeast Philadelphia firefighter was hospitalized Tuesday after suffering burns while battling a house fire in Holmesburg.
The firefighter, whose identity was not revealed by the fire department, was admitted to Frankford Hospital-Torresdale, for treatment of steam-related burns to the head, face, neck and hands, and was released within hours, said Executive Chief Daniel Williams. The firefighter is a member of Engine 36 at Frankford and Hartel avenues.
The blaze broke out at 4300 Decatur St. at about 12:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they observed medium smoke on the third floor of the three-story rowhouse. They declared the fire under control at 1:09 a.m.
There were no other injuries, Williams said.
It was unknown how many people occupied the home, although five adult males, one adult female and three children received American Red Cross services as a result of the fire.
