Bustleton teen
killed by train
Police have identified a Bustleton teen struck and killed by a CSX freight train on June 29.
Joseph Scicchitano, 16, had been near the tracks where they travel beneath an overpass at Haldeman Avenue. He was hit just before midnight by a northbound multi-container train traveling just west of Bustleton Avenue, according to police.
After being struck, Scicchitano came to a rest at Evergreen Way near County Line Drive. He was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m.
No charges have been filed against the trains operator. The accident investigation unit is still probing the incident, and detectives said they dont know why Scicchitano failed to move off the tracks when the train approached.
A Bustleton resident who lives near the accident site said she believes teenagers hang out at the train tracks at night. A citywide curfew ordinance states that children under the age of 17 must be indoors by 10:30 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday.
