Decomposed body
found in Crescentville

A tattoo with the name "Jose" — that’s one of the few clues that local homicide investigators have been able to ascertain from the badly decomposed body of a man discovered in a wooded area of Crescentville on June 25.
Another clue is that he was shot multiple times in the head.
But police don’t know who he is, where he came from or how he ended up in the woods off of Newtown Avenue, near Godfrey Avenue, said Lt. Philip Riehl of the homicide unit.
Investigators don’t know his age, either. But judging by the level of decomposition, a medical examiner has placed his time of death at a week to two weeks prior to his discovery. A man walking in the woods found the body and called police at about 6:30 that Monday evening.
Detectives believe that the victim was white or Latino. The aforementioned tattoo was on his back. He had other tattoos as well, Riehl said.
The murder was classified as the city’s 199th of 2007.
