Lawncrest is ready
for the Fourth

Organizers came to last week’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting to offer details on the 92nd annual Lawncrest 4th of July Celebration.
The celebration will take place next week on Independence Day, with a rain date of Saturday, July 7. The theme is Protect Our Future.
The fun gets under way at 8:30 a.m. with a parade that will begin at Rising Sun Avenue and Martins Mill Road and wind its way through the neighborhood before ending in front of the Lawncrest Recreation Center. The parade will feature mascots, the Greater Kensington and Greater Overbrook string bands, antique cars and more.
The grand marshals will be longtime resident Peg Seiz and Jean Pleis, who will represent her recently deceased father, Gene "Mr. Olney" Mansdoerfer. The LCA held a moment of silence for Mansdoerfer and another member, Joseph Neff, who also died.
The winners of the best-decorated children’s bicycles in the parade will win new bikes, courtesy of Lawncrest Town Watch.
The day’s activities will take place on the grounds of the recreation center, at Rising Sun Avenue and Comly Street. There will be a classic car show, a flea market, a baby parade, children’s rides, bingo, musical entertainment and a food court.
The celebration will end at sunset with a fireworks display.
