Holmesburg Library
ready for its big 100th

Holmesburg Library will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Wednesday, June 20.
The library, at 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), will hold an open house from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Guests will enjoy lemonade, cakes, cookies, water ice, soft pretzels and cupcakes. They will receive giveaways and have an opportunity to join the Friends of Holmesburg Library.
The library will be decorated with balloons, and staff and members of the Friends of Holmesburg Library will be dressed in 1907-era clothing. The branch opened on June 26, 1907.
There will appearances by City Councilwoman Joan Krajewski, state Sen. Mike Stack and Elliot Shelkrot, director and president of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Various politicians will present citations.
The evening will include speeches about the history of the library, and head librarian Cathie Huntzberry will recognize all former staffers and branch heads in attendance.
At 7 p.m., Random Acts of Theater will present a puppet workshop. At 8 p.m., the Sounds of Liberty Chorus will perform.
