Scott Cummings, who won the May 15 Republican primary for Traffic Court judge, told 15th Police District Advisory Council members at last weeks meeting that he would petition to have his name removed from the ballot, allowing him to keep his position as president of the organization.
PDAC bylaws forbid a candidate for political office from being a member of the organizations board of directors. By a show of hands at last months meeting, members had decided to wait on the results of the primary before voting on whether to approach Cummings about stepping down from the post. The PDAC president serves in the same capacity for the Mayfair Civic Association.
In other business, 15th district commander Capt. Frank Bachmayer recognized Officers Brendan Doris and Joseph Campbell as Officers of the Month for April.
The lawmen apprehended a suspect from an April 7 point-of-gun robbery on the 4100 block of Howell St. The officers surveyed the area with the complainants and observed two black males who were identified as the men who had robbed them moments earlier. The officers pursued the suspects, one of whom took off running. They followed the runner and apprehended him and the pistol. Charges included robbery, theft-unlawful taking, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person.
Cummings and PDAC vice president Nancy Doerr presented the officers with citations from state Sen. Christine Tartaglione (D-2nd dist.) and Wawa gift cards.
Sean McAleer, who won the Democratic nomination to oppose longtime Republican Councilman Brian ONeill in the 10th district, presented the officers with a citation from City Council.
The next 15th PDAC meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 18, in the courtroom at 15th district headquarters, Harbison Avenue and Levick Street.
