Torresdale man, 78,
found stabbed to death

Police continue their search for the person responsible for the murder of a Torresdale senior citizen who was found stabbed to death inside his apartment on Monday afternoon.
Philadelphia police were called to the 3800 block of Linden Ave. at 1:48 p.m., said Officer Raul Malveiro, a department spokesman.
Michael Lopuszanski, 78, was lying in the living room of his second-floor unit with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 p.m.
Capt. Michael Costello, commander of the homicide unit, said that the killing probably occurred within hours of the victim’s discovery by fire department personnel, who went to the residence at the request of the victim’s sister.
Lopuszanski had one severe wound and multiple lacerations, Costello said.
The victim lived alone, according to the detective captain. Investigators don’t believe the apartment was ransacked, although some undisclosed items may be missing from the scene.
Detectives have named no suspects but are investigating the possibility that Lopuszanski may have had a visitor on Sunday, Costello said.
The homicide commander declined to comment on published reports that neighbors placed a younger male at the residence over the weekend and that the victim may have had a dispute with the male.
Lopuszanski’s was the 164th homicide recorded by Philadelphia police in the city this year. ••
