PennDOT begins to
give streets a new face
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Tuesday began a series of 23 state highway resurfacing projects in Philadelphia costing a combined $4.4 million. The work is expected to continue through Sept. 30.
Oxford Avenue (Pa. Route 232) between Tabor Road and the Montgomery County line was one of the first projects to get under way, along with Rhawn Street between Oxford Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1).
Milling and paving work will be done from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. with preparatory work scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other upcoming paving projects in Northeast Philadelphia include:
Robbins Avenue (part of U.S. Route 13 north) between Roosevelt Boulevard and Frankford Avenue;
Robbins Avenue between Frankford Avenue and Keystone Street;
Knights Road between Frankford Avenue and Academy Road;
Holme Avenue between Pennypack Creek Bridge and Willits Road;
Castor Avenue between Roosevelt Boulevard and Bustleton Avenue.
James J. Anderson Construction Co. is the general contractor. The project will be funded 100 percent with state funds.
Motorists are encouraged to report road maintenance concerns to PennDOT via a toll-free hot line, 1-800-FIX-ROAD.
