Celebrating a historical
church site
The Baptist History Preservation Society will unveil a historical marker at Pennepack Baptist Church, 8732 Krewstown Road in Bustleton, on Tuesday, May 8, at 6 p.m.
Pennepack Baptist Church is one of the oldest Baptist congregations in the nation and will celebrate the 319th anniversary of its founding on Sunday, June 3. Services recently moved back to Ye Olde Pennepack Baptist Church, a 202-year-old building on Krewstown Road, south of Grant Avenue, after decades at a recently sold church on Bustleton Avenue.
The old church has undergone major renovations including the installation of heat and air conditioning. Future projects include installation of plumbing facilities and a vestibule.
The congregation on Feb. 11 installed the Revs. Tony and Jean Marie Tilford as permanent co-pastors. Both had served since June 2005 as interim pastors.
Members of the general public of all denominations are invited to the May 8 historical marker dedication and the June 3 anniversary service and celebration.
