Lawncrest announces
upcoming events
A number of upcoming events were announced at last weeks meeting of the Lawncrest Community Association.
On Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m., Friends of Tacony Creek will meet at the Salvation Army Citadel, at 5830 Rising Sun Ave. (at Van Kirk Street).
On Monday at 7 p.m., the 2nd Police District and Tiger Schulmanns Karate Centers will sponsor Woman Safe at Jardel Recreation Center, at Cottman Avenue and Pennway Street.
The free safety workshop is for females age 14 and older. Certified black-belt instructors will teach self-defense tactics. For more information, contact 2nd district community relations officer Mark Mroz at 215-685-7276.
On Thursday, May 3, state Rep. Dwight Evans will hold office hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Armys Alcott Street entrance.
On May 6, the St. William Springfest will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. in the parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets.
Activities will include bingo, a silent auction, music, rides, prizes, adult games of chance and a flea market on Rising Sun Avenue. Food and beer will be served.

The Lawncrest Community Association will meet a week earlier next month because of the primary election.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m., at St. William parish hall.
