LCA aims to shoot
down pool hall
The Lawncrest Community Association voted in February to oppose a proposed pool hall and café at 5699 Rising Sun Ave.
At last weeks meeting, owner Tran Minh Khim and attorney Patricia Talcott attempted to change the LCAs mind.
Their presentation didnt sway anyones opinion. The group again expressed opposition, based on lighting, parking and security reasons.
The applicant, who is seeking to move into the site of a former dollar store, wants to install 18 pool tables. The hall would be open until midnight. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, in front of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
In another zoning matter, the LCA discussed a proposed electronic sign at the Philadelphia Protestant Home. Support for the sign was withheld, at least until both sides can agree on the height of a fence to protect the free-standing sign. The group favors a 4-foot fence. The PPH wants a 6-foot fence for better security.
In other news from the meeting, Fire Capt. John J. McNally, of Engine 64, is offering smoke alarms for one- and two-family dwellings. Call 215-686-1176 for information.
